Riot Games has announced that the Valorant Champions 2023 world championship tournament will take place in Los Angeles, California later this year.
The tournament will be split across two iconic locations in the city, with the opening stages taking place at the Shrine Auditorium before heading to the KIA Forum for the final rounds where a new world champion will be crowned.
The KIA Forum can hold around 17,500 spectators, which, if Riot can sell out the event, should be an incredible crowd to watch the largest Valorant event of the year where 16 of the best teams in the world will battle it out for the title of World Valorant Champions. Exact dates and ticking information will be announced closer to the event.
Given Valorant’s popularity in the US, and Los Angeles is the home of developer Riot Games it is no surprise to see the tournament come to the city. With Riot being based there it should make organizing the tournament slightly easier and hopefully will lead to an incredible show for both those in attendance and those watching online.
Over the next few months teams from across the world will battle it out in regional leagues and international competitions to qualify for the Valorant Champions 2023 tournament. The 16 teams that qualify will then head to Los Angeles for the tournament, which will likely be the biggest Valorant tournament ever when it takes place, as viewer numbers have continued to grow since the last world championship.
Currently, the reigning world Valorant Champions Brazilian team Loud, are competing against Fnatic in the final of the VCT Lock-In tournament
The first major competition of the new season and the franchised era in Valorant. That tournament has seen massive crowds and incredible viewership numbers, so if that can be carried through the year the Champions event in Los Angeles should be incredible.
However, before that, there will be franchised leagues around the world running on a regular schedule for much of the year. While no one is expecting those leagues to match the viewership numbers of the Lock In event and last year’s world Valorant Champions, they will need to keep interested high, otherwise, Valorant could start going the way of Overwatch where viewership numbers are dropping significantly and owners who bought franchise spots are not particularly happy.
You can watch the final of the VCT Lock In tournament live, with the winning team taking home $100,000 and earning their region an extra spot at the Valorant Masters 2023 tournament, which is due to take place in Tokyo, Japan, in June.
