MOBO: AsRock Steel Legend x570

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X


OS: Windows 10 Version 1909 – 1909-OS Build 18363.1256

RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32GB DDR4 3200MHz





Hey guys, I’ve been haunted by a problem I have not been able to solve and its got me on my last legs.




I’ve recently replaced nearly all my hardware, each piece a few weeks apart form one another. about a week or so after my final hardware upgrade: an ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3080 OC 10GB, My monitor is randomly going black screen/no signal. I’ll walk through the chain of events and troubleshooting.


Day 1: Monitor loses signal. I can still hear discord and windows notification, along with game i was currently running. Display required system restart.


Day 2: Multiple instances of Display losing signal roughly 2-5 hours apart. Display required system restart


Day 3: Monitor loses signal while booting windows before I can get to the login screen. Cannot get display to make it beyond windows login for full day


This is where my first troubleshooting attempts began. I swapped display port input on the GPU, no fix. I swapped to a 1080p 60hz display using HDMI, no fix. I swapped power to a different circuit in the house, no fix. Clean driver uninstall/reinstall, Disabled G-Sync, re-seat GPU + RAM, disconnect and reconnect all cables, no fix.

When i swapped out the 3080 for my old MSI GTX 1080, the problem stopped, and never came back. this led my to believe the problem is with the 3080 GPU. I am unsure if the problem is primary, with the GPU itself, or secondary, with the PSU or monitor.




I’ve attached a windows event log. I noticed a string of 5 warning events from 5:23:53 – 5:24:15 from today: 12/26/2020 These seem to be associated with the display failure.


If its worth anything, when i lose my monitor  I receive the following windows notification 4-5 times: DISPLAY DRIVER FAILED TO START, using Microsoft Basic Display Driver instead. Check Windows Update for a newer display driver.




I’ve brought this computer into a local MicroCenter, and they said that they were unable to recreate the issue. This likely has no merit. the computer can at times go nearly two days without issue. they looked at it for a few hours and told me to pick it up


The problem now only appears to happen while gaming. only games I’ve been playing are World of Warcraft and Cyberpunk 2077.



Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m somewhat certain this is a windows issue. Thanks in advance for any help! again it is greatly appreciated.

M1 Chip Beats GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and Radeon RX 560 for Graphics Performance

Apple’s M1 processor often surpasses the graphics performance of desktop GPUs, including the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and AMD Radeon RX 560, according to a new benchmark submission spotted by Tom’s Hardware.

According to Apple, the M1’s octa-core GPU can simultaneously handle close to 25,000 threads and deliver up to 2.6 TFLOPS of throughput. This is the same TFLOPS achieved by the Radeon RX 560, and just below the GeForce GTX 1650’s 2.9 TFLOPS.

The GFXBench 5.0 benchmarks were tested under Apple’s Metal API, and show that the M1 often performs better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and AMD Radeon RX 560 by a fair margin. There is not yet a Metal benchmark for the GeForce GTX 1650 for the sake of comparison.

In the Aztec Ruins Normal Tier test, the Radeon RX 560 achieves 146.2 FPS, the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti achieves 159 FPS, and the M1 achieves 203.6 FPS. Similar results are seen across the board, with the M1 almost consistently surpassing the performance of the two desktop GPUs.

It is worth noting that GFXBench 5.0 benchmarks are primarily used to test mobile devices, and the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and Radeon RX 560 are older GPUs. Nonetheless, the M1 contains integrated graphics and the fact that it can surpass 75W desktop graphics cards is impressive. More detailed GPU comparisons will likely be coming soon as the first Macs equipped with the M1 arrive to customers this week.

2020 has seen a massive number of tech releases, and fans are always vying to see which is best. Recently, the European Hardware Community Awards held a survey to see what the community felt the strongest about.

“Reaching well over 20 million technology buyers, no other survey comes close to capturing the collective wisdom of the people when it comes to the deciding the ‘Best of the Best’ in the technology sector,” the EHCA writes.

Nvidia Releases GPU Driver That’s Game Ready To Enhance Geforce Video Cards 

The first name you’ll see is AMD for the best CPU. At the time of publication, the Zen 3 cards of the 5000 series hadn’t been released yet, so there’s a good chance that they’ve only further cemented their placing there on the list.

There are a few more names on the list as well – peripherals have a few listing as well, with Logitech claiming Best of both Keyboards and Mice. Sennheiser also grabbed a victory in Best Gaming Headsets and Best Headphones.

The above are the main components that’ll go into a build, and that’s what most people will be glancing through a list such as this to discover. There’s a good chance that there’s going to be a considerable increase in sales for Asus/ROG and Corsair, for example, given how often they appear on the list.

One issue to discuss though is the conversation of availability – AMD CPUs are still rather obtainable, but their newest series sold out in minutes and hasn’t seemed to see much of a restock since. The same could be said for Nvidia’s 30-series, which continue to suffer massive production issues.

Hopefully, as time goes on, these items will become more available. Given that the EHCA made this list through more than two million enthusiasts voting, rather than ranking it themselves, it seems that these are truly the opinions of the tech enthusiast community.
