The crossover returns after 2 decades
The first fighting game in Capcom and SNK’s epic clash went largely unplayed and obscure due to its platform of choice, but now everyone will have a chance to see how things started.
SNK announced tonight that SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on February 17 worldwide.
The latest member of the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection comes packing 26 fighters split between the iconic rosters of both companies.
Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown and The Last Blade members make up the SNK side of things plus Athena while Capcom pulls from Street Fighter’s world warriors and Darkstalkers.
While having been in development at the same time as the first Capcom vs. SNK fighting game, Match of the Millennium is quite different considering it’s built based on The King of Fighters R series on the NeoGeo Pocket Color.
This of course means that the game uses more chibi and less detailed sprites than their arcade contemporaries, but it’s full of charm and character without sacrificing the tight controls.
The dream SNK and CAPCOM collaboration title that can fit in your hands is coming to the Nintendo Switch!

Though SNK didn’t outright say otherwise, SNK vs. Capcom will probably not come with any online functionality like the other titles from the collection, but local multiplayer is available.
It’s quite interesting to see the SNK and Capcom logos next to each other on a “current” game release though there’s little reason to hope for anything more on that front at the moment — unless they plan to release the SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters titles.
Many fighting game fans would probably be even more excited for one of the arcade / console versions on modern hardware, but the last re-release we saw in this particular versus series came from the other side of the aisle with Capcom vs. SNK 2 on the PlayStation 3 as a PS2 Classic.
Match of the Millennium is the sixth game in the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection with the previous releases being SNK Gals’ Fighters, Samurai Shodown! 2, King of Fighters R-2, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny and Fatal Fury First Contact.
All of the other NeoGeo Pocket Color re-releases are priced at $7.99 USD on the Nintendo eShop, but SNK has not revealed a price yet for this piece of fighting game history.
