Google on January 27 started using its new office in northern Taiwan, which is the largest hardware R&D base outside the US and the first overseas one, according to Google Taiwan.
Following Google’s acquisition of HTC’s handset manufacturing department, including 2,000 engineers, at US$1.1 billion three years ago and the expansions of Google Taiwan’s employee number over the past five years, the company has decided to move to the new office with more space and with R&D capability.
The new office will become Google’s global hub of innovation in integrating AI with hardware/software technologies and Google Taiwan is planning to add another office in the same science park in 2023.
