Arguably one of the best third-party manufacturers of gaming peripherals, the mighty 8BitDo, has a new pad to offer gamers with limited mobility.
The story behind the Lite SE is a heartwarming one. As a father Andreas Karlsson contacted 8BitDo about his son Oskar, a gamer with limited mobility.
Modern game controllers were an issue for Oskar, especially with things like the shoulder buttons, as he suffers from a rare neuromuscular disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2 (SMA 2).
Jumping to the challenge, 8BitDo designed a pad that was more accessible to gamers with limited mobility, by engineering buttons and joysticks with less resistance and greater sensitivity, not to mention a more inclusive layout.
The result was the Lite SE and it looks like a brilliant and thoughtfully designed piece of gaming kit.
Currently, the Lite SE works on Switch, Android devices, and Raspberry Pi. It is also very reasonably priced at $34.99 and is available to order from 8BitDo’s online shop.
I generally hold 8BitDo in high regard, as they make great stuff, but the Lite SE is something special, noble even. As it allows more people into the world of gaming and that is definitely something to be celebrated.
